Why Quality Web Content Matters

Why Quality Web Content Matters

Have you ever visited a website that was completely illegible? Chances are pretty good that it didn’t take long for you to leave. Numerous studies have shown that most people decide whether or not they will stay on a website within three seconds. That doesn’t give your business a lot of time to make a good impression. The best way to attract more visitors is with quality web content.

Search Engine Optimization

Web users have hundreds of thousands of websites to choose from. That’s why search engine optimization is so important. When done right, search engine optimization helps more people find your website, allowing you stand out above your competition.

The quality of your web content plays a major role in where you place in the search engines. Ideally, when someone looks up something related to your business, you should appear somewhere in the first three pages of results. This can be accomplished with regularly updated, properly optimized, quality web content.

What is quality web content?

Quality web content is text that is easy to read, with little to no grammatical or spelling errors. Web content must be relevant to your business in order to place well with the search engines.

The search engines rate websites based on a number of different factors. Search engine robots dig through each website checking for original text. This means that web content cannot be copied in part or in whole. Copied text is the fastest way to lose your standing in the search engines. A website with plagiarized text might even be removed from the search engines entirely.

A blog is the best way to keep your web content fresh

Web content needs to be updated regularly. The best way to accomplish this is with a blog. Blogs should be updated at least twice a month, although 1-3 times per week is ideal. Just like other web content, blogs should be easy to read and relevant to your business. A properly optimized blog can raise your search engine ranking and drive more traffic to your website.

Alter Impact can help with all of your web content needs. Our professional content writers understand Google algorithms and know how to drive traffic to your website. Please contact us for details.

Social Media

Social media outlets such as Instagram and Twitter are extremely popular marketing tools in today’s competitive business world. These outlets allows businesses to effectively answer customer questions, gain more customers, show off new products or services and remain constantly in the public’s eye. In order to be successful, all businesses should have an active online presence.

Graphic Design

Graphic design includes logo design and all imagery associated with your business. These images represent your customer’s first impression of your company. If they aren’t effective and well-designed then potential customers will view your business as unprofessional. Even the most innovative products seem worthless when they are surrounded by poorly designed graphics.

Web Design

Most people will only consider a business after visiting their website. If that website is slow or poorly designed, there’s not much stopping them from clicking over to your competition instead. The same goes for websites that aren’t mobile responsive.  Websites that cannot be accessed by phone or tablet, then you are losing business. This is because most people will only use their phones to look things up on the web.

Professional Content Writing

Web content includes the text on your webpages and in your blog. In order to stay at the top of the search engines you must be adding content to your website regularly. The best way to accomplish this is with a blog. However, it’s not enough to just write your thoughts in a blog. Blogs must be written in such a way that they gain relevancy with the search engines. Web content should be informative and well written without spelling or grammatical errors. Blogs should be easy to read and interesting to your target audience.

Why You Should NEVER Design Commercial Printing Projects in MS Word

Why You Should NEVER Design Commercial Printing Projects in MS Word

As a professional web and graphic designer, we get a lot of people asking if they can design their commercial printing projects in MS Word. This is especially true for large companies where every employee has their own copy of Word. While this might be convenient for many, using MS Word or MS Publisher for professional printing is never a good idea.

Word processors like MS Word do not allow you to have precise control over tracking, kerning, justification, alignment, ligatures and other nuances of fine typesetting that dedicated layout programs can provide. Simply put, when using MS Word, you have much less control over the individual characters and the overall look and color of the text. Minuscule details within a block of copy combine to either facilitate or detract from the overall ease of reading. Also, multi-column layouts are extremely difficult to create or control in MS Word.

Graphics tend to move within an MS Word file. This makes it virtually impossible to anchor them to a specific position within the text. Also, MS Word is an RGB application. Commercial printing works within a CMYK color space. When you attempt to convert an RGB file to CMYK it can dramatically alter the color. Also, black text becomes a color build rather than 100 percent black.

Instead of designing your commercial printing projects in MS Word, consider enlisting the help of a graphic designer. Professional graphic designers have the proper programs and knowledge to help you create perfect, print-ready pieces.

Alter Impact can help you with your company’s commercial printing needs. We offer professional web and graphic design to businesses both large and small. For more information, please contact us today.

How the Speed of Your Mobile Website Affects Your Search Engine Ranking

How the Speed of Your Mobile Website Affects Your Search Engine Ranking

When a webpage takes too long to load, it slows down the internet. Google considers this a major problem. That’s why in 2010, Google announced that they would start ranking websites based on how long it took webpages to load. Today, in addition to Meta title and Meta descriptions, Google considers page load time as one of the biggest factors for search engine ranking.

Google’s Mobile-Friendly Algorithm

On April of this year Google began ranking websites based on their mobile responsiveness. Currently, the speed that mobile pages load doesn’t impact where you place in the search engines. However, that is expected to change in the next few months.

Within the next few months Google is changing its mobile-friendly algorithm to look more closely at the speed of mobile pages.

The numbers don’t lie

  • The ten highest ranking websites load in 1.16 seconds
  • The ten highest ranking mobile sites load in 1.10 seconds
  • The top thirty highest ranking websites load in 1.20 seconds
  • The top thirty mobile websites load in 1.17 seconds

Today, approximately fifty percent of internet users expect a website to load in just two seconds or less. These users quickly lose interest in a website that has not loaded in as little as three seconds. Studies have shown that bringing a website with an eight second load time down to a five second load time generates up to 18 percent increase in page values and page views.

Google’s measurements are based on how long it takes from the time a user requests a page to when that page is fully loaded. Google understands that web designers have no control over external factors such as wireless connection or the user’s device. This is why they only consider network independent factors in their ranking.

The speed at which a webpage loads is important to the user’s experience. This is especially true for mobile users. A page that is quick to load will always beat out a slow loading page.

If your website takes too long to load then you are already losing visitors. These lost visitors can equate to a lot of lost business. Alter Impact understands how important it is for people to find your website. We can help you create a fully optimized mobile-friendly website. Please contact us for details.
