You might be tempted to ask your designer how long it takes to build a website, but the amount of time it takes actually depends on how prepared you are. You should have a clear project description prepared before even contacting your designer.
It’s no surprise that a website can be built much faster when the client is prepared with a clear explanation of what they want. Typically, every hold-up in the web design process occurs because the client isn’t prepared. These hold-ups can go on for weeks at a time as companies decide what they want their website to look like, say or what images should be used.
The main work for a web designer is in the template design. This is when they create ideas for the look and shape of your whole website. This part of the process can become costly in time if you haven’t fully thought through what you want. However, if you are able to give examples of your preferred style and page layout as well as provide immediate feedback, then the process moves quite quickly. A template design that runs smoothly is usually achievable in a week or two if you are properly prepared and communication lines are always open between you and your designer.
Once the template design is in place you will need to have your content ready to go. This might include images and text. Depending on the number of pages, this can take between a couple of days and a couple of weeks to complete. Again, this relies heavily on how prepared you are.
