Content Marketing 101

Content Marketing 101

You can’t market your business online without content marketing. Content marketing refers to the creation and distribution of free content used to attract new customers. While other forms of marketing might include postcards, business cards and other physical pieces that can be handed out to potential clients, content marketing consist of blogs, social media, podcasts and video.

Blogs

Every successful company has a blog. A blog is the perfect opportunity to create shareable content that is interesting and relevant to your intended audience. Blogs should be well written and easy to read. They should be free from spelling and grammatical errors. Your blog should be updated at least twice a month.

For the best results, consider hiring a professional content writer to manage your blog. This ensures consistent, quality content. In most instances, a professional can create and post your blog to your website. Combining an informative blog with a quality social media marketing campaign expands your reach and increases your chance of visitors converting to customers.

Social Media Marketing

Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook offer unique opportunities for new customers. Creating a positive and consistent presence on social media can go a long way towards building your brand.

Using social media to answer questions and respond to concerns in a quick and professional manner shows your customers that you really care about them. Providing interesting and valuable content through social media encourages people to share your posts. When people share your posts with their friends and family, you reach even more potential clients. This is why social media marketing is so important and popular today.

For effective social media marketing, consider hiring a social media marketing specialist. A social media marketing specialist understands how social media works. They know what works and what does not. This can save you and your marketing team a lot of guesswork.

Why Quality Web Content Matters

Why Quality Web Content Matters

Have you ever visited a website that was completely illegible? Chances are pretty good that it didn’t take long for you to leave. Numerous studies have shown that most people decide whether or not they will stay on a website within three seconds. That doesn’t give your business a lot of time to make a good impression. The best way to attract more visitors is with quality web content.

Search Engine Optimization

Web users have hundreds of thousands of websites to choose from. That’s why search engine optimization is so important. When done right, search engine optimization helps more people find your website, allowing you stand out above your competition.

The quality of your web content plays a major role in where you place in the search engines. Ideally, when someone looks up something related to your business, you should appear somewhere in the first three pages of results. This can be accomplished with regularly updated, properly optimized, quality web content.

What is quality web content?

Quality web content is text that is easy to read, with little to no grammatical or spelling errors. Web content must be relevant to your business in order to place well with the search engines.

The search engines rate websites based on a number of different factors. Search engine robots dig through each website checking for original text. This means that web content cannot be copied in part or in whole. Copied text is the fastest way to lose your standing in the search engines. A website with plagiarized text might even be removed from the search engines entirely.

A blog is the best way to keep your web content fresh

Web content needs to be updated regularly. The best way to accomplish this is with a blog. Blogs should be updated at least twice a month, although 1-3 times per week is ideal. Just like other web content, blogs should be easy to read and relevant to your business. A properly optimized blog can raise your search engine ranking and drive more traffic to your website.

Alter Impact can help with all of your web content needs. Our professional content writers understand Google algorithms and know how to drive traffic to your website. Please contact us for details.

Is Your Blog Attracting Enough Attention?

Is Your Blog Attracting Enough Attention?

Nowadays it seems like everybody has a blog. It makes sense when you consider the amount of attention a blog can gain for a website. Blogging increases a website’s ranking on the search engines and attracts more visitors. This can be especially beneficial for businesses. Numerous studies have shown that the more times a person visits a business’s website the more likely they are to think of that business when they need what they offer.

An interesting blog keeps the reader engaged, encouraging them to check back often and share content with their friends and family. When a website receives a lot of visitors, their ranking on the search engines improves. All of this is very good news for individuals and businesses wanting to increase their exposure.  However, a poorly written blog or one that does not follow Google’s guidelines can have the opposite effect; visitors quickly lose interest and search engine ranking drops, sometimes falling off the list entirely.

Why writing quality matters

Have you ever tried reading a poorly written blog? Sometimes they don’t make any sense, other times the spelling and grammar is so terrible that it becomes all you can focus on. Occasionally you come across several different blogs on different websites that are exactly the same, word for word. These types of blogs are not interesting, not worth sharing and are quickly removed from Google and the other search engines.

Google sets certain criteria for web content. All web content must be easy to read, relevant to the website and it MUST be original. Google scans every single webpage to ensure that content is not copied from another website or blog. Penalties apply if all of the web content is copied, or just a small portion of it. This includes content that has been copied even if the words have been changed slightly.

Attracting more visitors

The best way to attract more visitors to your blog is to consistently post relevant and interesting information. Keep in mind that a blog is not meant to be an advertisement of your business but a marketing tool to attract visitors to your website. Once they are there, they might just search around. Even if all they do is read and share your blog, you have the opportunity to gain potential customers that come to trust your business and recognize your brand.

Let us help you create and maintain your blog. Alter Impact has over 14 years of experience creating quality web content for businesses both large and small. For more information, please contact us today.

Blog Writing – Why We Write the Way We Do

Blog Writing – Why We Write the Way We Do

As a professional writer I’m often asked why I blog the way I do. While many clients believe that their blog should read like a giant advertisement, that’s not actually the purpose of a blog. A blog directs customers and potential customers to your website in the hopes that they will keep coming back. The more they visit your website, the more likely they are to remember your business when they need what you provide. Below, I’ll explain the basics of blog writing.

Keywords

While keyword density used to be an extremely important part of optimizing a blog, Google now penalizes companies for keyword stuffing. Google recognizes core keywords when placed in the title, the title of an image and in the first paragraph of an article. Google’s robots search each and every webpage for repeated words and phrases. If keywords are used at more than a 1-3% ratio, a penalty can be applied. These penalties include loss of ranking status or being removed from the search engine entirely. If words or phrases either related or unrelated to the keywords are repeated throughout the article, your blog might be deemed as irrelevant.

Google strives to provide relevant, readable content to people searching the web. Because of the gross misuse of keywords and poorly written articles that are simply “copied and pasted” several times over, Google has updated their algorithms to scan and find what they consider irrelevant content.

Why Google Matters

You might be wondering why you should care how Google ranks you. While there are other search engines available, Google is the most popular entry point to the online world. Successful businesses understand how important it is to rank well on Google. The more successful a business’s online presence is, the higher they are ranked.

Why your website shouldn’t read like a commercial

Most people switch off the television when a commercial is playing. Similarly, the second a blog starts sounding like a commercial, your audience will start to tune you out.

Studies have shown that the number one reason people don’t read a blog is because it’s too promotional. However, when you post informative blogs you invite people to share your content through social media and other outlets. This is because people actually enjoy reading your articles.

No one wants to share an advertisement, but they WILL share usable content. The goal of your blog should be to delight and help your customers.

People will keep coming back to and share a blog that is interesting to them. Targeted keywords attract the right audience and content that is relevant and useful will keep them coming back to your website. This is proven to be the best way to gain clients from a blog.

Professional Blogging Explained – Why Update My Blog?

Professional Blogging Explained – Why Update My Blog?

The internet environment is always changing. Pretty much anything and everything can be accomplished online. The technology of the internet has paved the way for several different things such as websites, emails, social networking and blogs. Today we’ll take a closer look at professional blogging.

A blog is a person or company’s online journal. It is posts or articles posted on a website in reverse chronological order. Blogs might be composed of text, images, hyperlinks or hypertext. Companies use blogs to communicate and interact with their market.

It’s important to update your blog regularly. If you update your blog on the same day every week, readers will know when to access your site. When updated regularly, a blog can maintain your ranking in the search engines. This is because new blogs help generate network traffic.

Your blog should be well written and easy to read. If you are writing for your business, topics should always be relevant to your target audience.

The search engines love to see fresh, original, quality content. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to add content to your website every single day, but rather regularly at the same rate over time. For example, if you add three pages every week then you will need to keep that pace up or decrease it slowly, preferably over a couple of months.

Alter Impact has been creating high quality websites for over 14 years. We offer professional blogging for businesses both big and small. For more information, please contact us today.
