Common Web Design Mistakes

Common Web Design Mistakesweb design mistakes

Quality website navigation is extremely important if you want visitors to keep coming back to your website. If visitors are not able to find what they are looking for or cannot easily surf through the pages on your website, they aren’t likely to return. Let’s take a look at some of the more common web design mistakes.

  • Too many social media icons
While it’s wonderful to be connected on social media and have the ability to do so from your webpage, having an icon for every single social media site known to man will only overwhelm your visitors.
  • Placing advertisement pages before web content
No one wants to watch an advertisement video or click past a pop-up ad before they are able to get to the article they want to read. This is probably the quickest way to lose visitors to your website.
  • Large scale use of Flash animations
While Flash animations can enhance small portions of your website, large scale use of Flash animations will cause your website to load slowly and be difficult to navigate. In addition, search engine robots cannot read Flash.
  • Disabling the web browser’s “back” button
Even if your website has its own “back” navigation, most people will prefer to use their web browser’s “back” button. If your design disables this feature, people aren’t likely to return.
  • Not including contact details
Without any contact details, most people will assume that you are a scam. If your contact information is difficult to find, people might think that you have something to hide. Prominently displayed contact details help you gain the trust of your visitors.

How Blogs Work

How Blogs Workhow blogs work

In today’s digital world, blogs can be found everywhere. Creating and maintaining a blog is an important part of content marketing for businesses both large and small. All blogs have a similar format where the newest posts appear first, but that’s where the similarities end. Blogs can vary widely in terms of topics, styles and content.

Early on, if you wished to post content to the Internet you had to have an extensive knowledge of hypertext markup language. Each site had to be coded manually. However, as tools became available that allowed individuals to create content without knowing HTML, blogging became much more popular. Early blogs were simply a place for individuals to share their thoughts online. As the medium grew, people began to use blogs as a way to share news and gossip.

Even though the surface of a blog looks like any other website, the creation of the content is very different. Blog platforms are interfaces that automate the coding of a web page, meaning that blog authors do not need to know how to code. Blogs can be linked to other blogs through a blogroll which is simply a list of blogs that the author follows. These blogrolls allow ideas to spread virally.

Blogging isn’t likely to go away any time soon. In fact, it is only gaining in popularity. Twitter is often referred to as a microblogging site, Pinterest focuses on the sharing of pictures and contains links to blogs, Vine allows microblogging of very short video clips, and video sites like YouTube allows video bloggers to garner millions of views.

Alter Impact has over thirteen years of experience creating and maintaining professional, high quality websites. We also offer quality web content services. For more information on how we can help you properly market your business, please contact us today.

Effective Website Design

Effective Website Designeffective web design

Website design isn’t just about having flashy graphics or catchy phrases. The most important part of web design is having a clear understanding of what the website needs to accomplish and how to get it there. It’s easy to find artists and writers to create content for your website, but it’s more crucial to know what you should be getting out of those individuals. Effective website design incorporates:

  • SEO
  • Style
  • Functionality
  • Browser compatibility

Search engine optimization is a strategy that makes a website easier to find online. Including keywords into the website’s text is just one way to help the search engines locate your website and bring it to the attention of individuals searching the internet. Professional web designers understand exactly how to incorporate keywords so that the search engines consider the website more relevant than others that simply repeat keywords over and over again.

The style of the website should reflect the message that your business is trying to convey. While flashy graphics can help draw visitors in, when not used sparingly they can have the opposite effect.

When designing a website one must consider the reason for which it will be used. For example, a business website that sells a product or service will need to reach as many people as possible. Professional website designers know how to maximize a website’s exposure by incorporating search engine optimized language as well as advertising on other websites.

It doesn’t matter how effective the content or graphics of a website are if the pages are not compatible with the most popular web browsers. The website must be designed with code that is compatible with the four main web browsers. Even if all of the pages are not compatible with all four browsers, the web designer should be able to recognize the shortfalls of a particular browser and offer clear instructions for website visitors on how to use all of the features of the website.

Alter Impact has been designing quality websites for over twelve years. We offer web design, graphic design, search engine optimization and search engine optimized content writing. For more information, please contact us today.
