While content marketing can benefit all businesses, there is a right way and a wrong way to approach it, especially if your business is just getting started. Established companies can typically afford to take more risks, but for those just starting out it’s not just about marketing, it’s about building a brand and a reputation. The following tips will help you attract the right attention from the right markets.

  • Always write to your audience
    The overall tone and style of your content should be directed towards your key demographics. Whenever possible, adapt your content on a variety of platforms.
  • Always proofread
    Have several people look over the content before it’s published.
  • Cover topics that perform
    It’s important to put yourself in the shoes of your client’s potential customers. You need to know what they’re searching and write interesting content that is relevant to those searches.
  • Embrace the white space
    Keep in mind that people will be reading content on a number of different devices including tablets and smart phones. Big blocks of text are likely to turn readers off. Short, digestible chunks are more likely to be read.
  • Include images
    While content marketing typically refers to text, it can also mean infographics, videos or images. A good mix of all of these elements can engage readers and draw them in.
  • Build consistency
    As you develop your brand, message and style remember to always keep your content aligned with it.
  • Provide the right amount of content
    Typically, blogs should be updated at least once per week, newsletters should be emailed once per month and social media posts should occur about three times per week.
  • Always keep your content entertaining or informative
